2 down, 5 to go! I'm enjoying the challenge, although today was a little tougher. I am much more conscious of what I'm eating (and not eating) on a work day than on a weekend. Probably because I'm bored. Today's lunch and snacks went fine, although I was totally craving more carbs. Little did I know I'd be (over-)compensating for that just a few hours later. I actually got a banana from a fruit dude on the street to hold me over until dinner. I am a little bit of a carb queen, I guess.
And now for Permanent Brunch: a review. I was so happy to be able to eat whatever I wanted, even though it's only been a day and a half. Sad. I ordered Red Wine Braised Mushrooms, which was a piece of toast smeared with ricotta salata and tons of delicious, winey mushrooms, and a soft boiled egg on top. We also split a tasting of 2 different types of bacon. Nice and crispy and just a little smokey. My food was definitely very good, but I was a little underwhelmed on the whole. It was slightly more refined than I was expecting... I think I wanted a big-ass brunch for dinner, but I got a nice normal-sized plate of something tasty. I also think I don't love soft boiled eggs. Too... soft. Imagine that. I also had bites of Joanna's chicken and waffles and Alex's stuffed ham and cheese french toast. It was processed and wonderful. And I will now try to erase it from my memory until next Monday.
The real highlight was DESSERT. We went to Momofuku's Milk Bar after dinner since none of us was particularly full, somehow. I regretfully admit to a pretty serious sugar binge. I almost never do this, but I've already mentioned how I feel about dessert, and this was OUTRAGEOUS. Dinner really didn't feel all that heavy, and this is the only real dessert I'm having all week, so that's how I'm justifying this. 4 of us split a slice of banana cake, a chocolate chip marshmallow cookie, a slice of candybar pie, and a game-time-decision compost cookie. That last one is so good it's trademarked. It actually contains oats, graham, chocolate, potato chips, and a little bit of fairy dust thrown in for good measure. The names of my partners in crime will be omitted to protect their identities. No one should be exposed to that much dessert in one night. I can't WAIT to go back. I was too enthralled to take pictures before, but here's the damage:
Feelings after 2 days of unprocessed foods: I feel like I've been eating lighter than usual, but technically (calorically) I probably haven't. I need a new idea for a source of carbs, because lunch just wasn't satisfying with my measly portion of polenta. I started snacking early in the afternoon. I've either gotta double it, or try something else. We will see!!! Also, looks like it's time to start getting people in my pictures!
